If you've played other RTS games like Starcraft, you'll know that memorizing hotkeys is the lifeblood of effective gameplay, and Company of Heroes 2 is no exception. Be sure to keep a team of engineers in the back so if your tank gets damaged, you can run from the fight (using the Conscript/Penal units as fodder) and get the tank repaired oftentimes losing a tank means you won't be able to complete the mission. I also try to save up for tanks instead of spending my resources on actions or other vehicles tanks are hands down the best units in the game (and also crucial for many mission objectives).
Also keep track of your best units and use Conscript/Penal units to refill your good units as soon as possible.
Be sure to have a unit of mortars in the back if you can afford it. Using cover is crucial for preserving your best units use your Conscripts/Penal units as fodder to draw out the enemy while your good units fire on the enemy from behind cover.
There were two levels where you don't get these grunt units, I followed the IGN guide ( ) for those levels. It does take a couple of minutes to get the horde ready and sometimes the hoard doesn't do much damage, but with enough patience (and sacrifices from the Conscript/Penal units) you'll eventually break through. The number one strategy for the campaign (for casual RTS players like me) is to spam Conscript/Penal units these units are free and pretty useful (especially if you get the anti-vehicle upgrade from your main camp) typically I try to save up enough units to max out the population cap then I spam these units in a horde for maximum effect. Here are some of my observations from playing through the game: To be honest, I didn't find Hard mode that much harder than Easy so I'd recommend playing through on Hard as the achievements are stackable it may take some trial and error, but the game was very fair and you'll get through the missions in the end. Unfortunately, unlike the Steam version of the game, the Microsoft Store version does not appear to support dev mode or mods (please correct me if I'm wrong), so you'll have to play through the missions without cheats. Please note that General difficulty refers to Hard difficulty within the game.
